چکیده

A Cramér-Rao bound (CRB) for semi-blind channel estimators in redundant block transmission systems is derived. The derived CRB is valid for any system adopting a full-rank linear redundant precoder, including the popular cyclicprefixed orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing system. Simple forms of CRBs for multiple complex parameters, either unconstrained or constrained by a holomorphic function, are also derived, which facilitate the CRB derivation of the problem of interest. The derived CRB is a lower bound on the variance of any unbiased semi-blind channel estimator, and can serve as a tractable performance metric for system design. Index Terms Cramér-Rao bound (CRB), semi-blind channel estimation, block transmission systems, complex parameters, constrained parameters.

Cramer-Rao Bound for Blind Channel Estimators in Redundant Block Transmission Systems

In this paper, we derive the Cramér-Rao bound (CRB) for blind channel estimation in redundant block transmission systems, a lower bound for the mean squared error of any blind channel estimators. The derived CRB is valid for any full-rank linear redundant precoder, including both zero-padded (ZP) and cyclic-prefixed (CP) precoders. A simple form of CRBs for multiple complex parameters is also d...

Comments on "Performance Analysis of a Deterministic Channel Estimator for Block Transmission Systems With Null Guard Intervals"

In the above-mentioned paper a Cramer-Rao bound was derived for the performance of a blind channel estimation algorithm. In this paper an error in the bound is pointed out and corrected. It is observed here that the performance of the said algorithm does not achieve the Cramer-Rao bound. In the above paper [1], important work has been done to analyze the algorithm in [2] which solves a blind ch...

Cramer-Rao bound based mean-squared error and throughput analysis of superimposed pilots for semi-blind multiple-input multiple-output wireless channel estimation

This work presents a study of the mean-squared error (MSE) and throughput performance of superimposed pilots (SP) for the estimation of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless channel. The Cramer–Rao bound (CRB) is derived for SP based estimation of the MIMO channel matrix. Employing the CRB analysis, it is proved that the asymptotic MSE bound is potentially 3 dB lower than the MSE per...

Blind OFDM Channel Estimation Using Receiver Diversity

In this paper we exploit receiver diversity for blind channel estimation for OFDM systems with cyclic prefix. The developed channel estimation algorithm has the following advantages compared with existing blind methods: a) It is data efficient — the proposed algorithm can be implemented using a single OFDM block; b) It is computationally efficient — only a single singular value decomposition is...

Exact Cramer-Rao Bounds for Semi-blind Channel Estimation in Amplify-and-Forward Two-Way Relay Networks

In this paper, we derive the exact Cramer-Rao bounds (CRBs) for semi-blind channel estimation in amplifyand-forward two-way relay networks employing square QAM modulation. The derived bounds are used to show that the semiblind approach, which exploits both the transmitted pilots and transmitted data symbols, can provide substantial improvements in estimation accuracy over the training-based app...
